Dorothy A. Atherton

Send a condolence note

Tilton-----Dorothy A. Atherton died peacefully at home surrounded by friends and family on Wednesday, September 3, 2003.

She was born on March 12, 1916 in New York City, the daughter of Ira & Florence (Ash) Abbott of South Orange, N.J.

She was a graduate of Columbia High School, South Orange and a 1937 graduate of Lasell Jr. College in Massachusetts. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, aunt and sister-in-law. She was always there for the activities of her children, driving great distances and filling her car with anyone who needed a ride. She took great pride in her jobs of assisting the elderly most of her life. Planning bus trips, some day trips and others longer, always down to the least little detail. She always made sure the holidays were special even for those who had no family, bringing them into her own home to celebrate with her own family. She loved to cook, go for rides, eat out and visit with friends and family. She was able to stay in her own home thanks to the incredible loving care from Judy Hodgdon and her husband, Bob, who got her out and about whenever possible on rides all over the state, especially the Lakes Region. Her family can&Mac226;t thank them enough for the love and care they have given her, they are true angels.

She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Walter, and by a daughter-in-law, Denise.

She is survived by her four children, William and his wife, Mary-Jane, Walter, Jr. and his wife, Jeanette, Carol Riordon and her husband, Steve, and Florence all of Tilton. Six grandchildren, Scott and his wife, Stacey, Stephanie and her friend, Aron, Kimberlee and her husband, Chris, Karen and her husband, Doug, Michael and his wife, Amanda, and Michele; great grandchildren, Kelsey, Cameron & Erin Atherton, Christopher & Bailee Demers, Skylar & Jackson Ruelke and Abigail Riordon; cousins; and two sisters-in-law, Helen Olden of Moultonboro and Alice Atherton of Laconia.

A Calling Hour will be held on Monday, September 8, 2003 from 2:00-3:00 PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH.
