Laconia-----Norman I. Cheney, 78, of 20 Mass Ave., Lakeport, NH, died Friday September 3, 2004 at the Genesis ElderCare, Laconia Network. He was the widower of Flora O. (Fogarty) Cheney who died in 1999.
Mr. Cheney was born October 12, 1925 in Franklin the son of Charles Cheney and Laurene Sargent. He had lived in the Lakes Region for most of his life.
Mr. Cheney served in the US Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Laconia Salvation Army.
Mr. Cheney was a self-employed painter and was also employed by Stitt Painters and also Stockbridge Painters he was retired from the Laconia Citizen where he was employed for 25 years.
Survivors include 3 daughters Norma L. Whitten and Wendy L. Cheney both of Laconia and Bonnie J. Tate of Kent, Ohio; a son Michael J. Cheney of Becket, Mass.; 19 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren; a half brother Horace Jenot of Ashland; a half sister Joan Parris of Rumney; many nephews and nieces. Beside his parents and wife he was predeceased by a son Carleton N. Cheney in 1993 a daughter Susan G. Cheney in 1979 a granddaughter Chastity Pearson in 1992 and 2 great-grandsons James Kato in 1997 and Andrew Whitten in 2002.
There are no calling hours.
A graveside service will be held in Maplewood Cemetery, Rt. 4 Salisbury, NH Wednesday September 8, 2004 at 2:00 PM. The Major David Dickson of the Laconia Salvation Army will officiate.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Laconia Salvation Army 177 Union Ave. Laconia, NH 03246.
