Richard F. Ahern Concord-----Richard F. Ahern, 97, of 200 Pleasant Street and formerly of 191 North Street, Manchester, died at the Presidential Oaks in Concord, N.H. He was the widower of Arlene (Campbell) Ahern who died in 1997. Mr. Ahern was born August 21, 1912 in Concord, N.H., the son of Catherine (Favor ) and William J. Ahern, Jr. He resided in Concord for many years. He graduated from Concord High School in 1929 and from the University of New Hampshire in 1934. While at U.N.H., he was student manager of the 1933 U.N.H. Football Team and was a member of the S.A.E. Fraternity. Mr. Ahern was employed with the Internal Revenue Service for thirty-three years before retiring in 1972. Mr. Ahern was an avid golfer and was a member of the Derryfield Country Club, and the N.H. Senior Golfers Association, serving as president in 1986. From 1975-1993, he served six terms as a member of the N.H. State House of Representatives from Ward 2, Manchester and was a Delegate of the Constitution Convention in 1984. Survivors include his son, Richard Ahern, of Lilburn, Georgia; three grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Lamphier, of Marshfield Hills, Mass. and several nephews and nieces. In addition to his wife and his parents, Mr. Ahern was predeceased by a daughter, Judith F. Demers, by a brother, William J. Ahern, and by a sister, Frances Bogart. There will be no calling hours. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, September 11, 2009 at 11:00AM at the family lot in Union Cemetery, Academy Street, Laconia, N.H. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Vermont-New Hampshire Affiliate, PO Box 2496, Manchester, VT 05255.
