Richard K. Horne
Send a condolence note

Laconia-----Richard K. Horne, 72, of 191 Cotton Hill Road, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital on Tuesday, September 8, 2009.

Richard was born April 25, 1937 in Laconia, N. H., the son of Kenneth H. & Arleen (Ring) Horne. He was a longtime resident of Laconia and had been a math teacher with the Pittsfield School District.
Never married, Richard (known affectionately as RK) devoted his life to his students and his family. He was an avid photographer and gardener, but will be most remembered as a person who spent thousands of volunteer hours making a positive difference in the lives of many youths. Since his retirement after 40 plus years of teaching in Pittsfield, N.H, he had spent his summers helping with the children’s program at the town park.

He was a member of the Bible Speaks Church, Lakeport.

RK loved to play basketball, tennis, bowl, hike and play card games. He was known for always being at school or leading a small group of students on an adventure every weekend day. In 1988, he was given the Presidential Outstanding Teacher Award. Students that became his friends after graduation regarded him fondly as an elder-brother figure and continued to meet for game nights or sports events. For students, friends and family, Richard was always there to listen and to help.

Richard is survived by a sister, Pat Lounsbury, of Gilford; a brother, Pastor Robert N. Horne and his wife, Eleanor, of Laconia and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 11, 2009 from 6:00-8:00PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N. H.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 11:00AM also in the Carriage House of the Funeral Home. RK’s brother, Pastor Robert N. Horne, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the family lot in South Road Cemetery, Belmont, N.H.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bible Speaks Church, 40 Belvidere Street, Lakeport, N.H. 03246 or the American Diabetes Association, Manchester, N.H. office, 249 Canal Street, Manchester, N.H. 03101.
