Virginia Forbes Hurt

Gilford---Virginia Forbes Hurt, 99, lost a brief struggle with pneumonia on
Sunday November 18th, at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia, N.H.

Virginia was born in Reading, Mass. on October 19, 1908, a second child to George Augustus Forbes and Flora (Gould) Forbes.  After graduating from Reading High School in 1926, she worked as a stenographer and secretary for the Mason and Hamlin Piano Co. and others in Boston.  In this time she studied art at the Scott Carbee School of Art, Boston, by taking evening classes.

In 1935, Virginia and Adelbert (Bert) F. Hurt of Newton (Mass.) were married.  They had their children and resided in Reading until 1949, when the family moved to Winnisquam (Sanbornton) N.H.  In 1968 they moved to Gilford.

Virginia was a gifted artist showing considerable talent, even at a very young age. She joined the New Hampshire Art Association where she became an officer as Board Secretary, a position she held for many years. During this period, she produced a multitude of still life, portrait and landscape paintings in pastel, oil and watercolor, which

were displayed by the Association in their various venues.

Her grateful family will never forget her resilience and fortitude when, at the age of 51, she suddenly became a widow.  Nor, will they forget her example of constant equanimity and refined lady-like demeanor, good humor and ever-present curiosity in learning new things through-out life.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1960, and one Brother, 1st Lt. (Royal Flying Corps.) G. Paul Forbes, in 1986.  Her family includes two Sons, Frank N. Hurt II of Gilford (who was her main care giver for her last years) and George F. Hurt also of Gilford; one daughter, Nancy E.
