Esther Sarah Joyal

Laconia----Esther Sarah Joyal, 97, of 21 Ledges Drive, Taylor Community, died on Monday, November 19, 2007.

Mrs. Joyal was born August 31, 1910 in Auburn, N. H., the daughter of  William H. and Lillian M. (Lillis) Davis. She was a long time resident of Laconia and Gilford where she was employed as an assistant dietitian at the Lakes Region General Hospital for twenty-five years. She retired in 1974.

A long time member of the Congregational Church of Laconia, she had been elected Honorary Deaconess and was a recipient of the Church Service Award.  She was an active member of the Church Activities Committee and other groups of the church.  She was also a member of the Laconia Women’s Club where she met and enjoyed several friends and acquaintances.  Esther loved to camp and hike.  She spent many years camping with her husband when they were both members of the Latchkey Chapter of campers.  When her children were young, she was a Girl Scout co-leader and Carolyn has fond memories of her first hike up Mt. Washington with her mother and Mrs. Koerner as leaders.  Esther was a superb seamstress and also loved to knit and always had a vegetable garden.  She was a lover of animals and nature and has passed much of that love onto her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She loved and was very proud of all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be cherished in all of our memories.

Survivors include two daughters, Eleanor DePine-Mongovan and her husband, Harold, of Laconia and Carolyn Kimball and her husband, Richard,  of Presque Isle, Maine; eleven grandchildren, Glenn, Michael and Joseph DePine, Brenda DePine Bell, Thomas, Nathan and Andrew Tarrant, Jonathan, Roderick and Rosalea Kimball and Elizabeth Kimball Bond; eight great grandchildren Nicholas and Angela Bell, Elizabeth Rousseau, David and Daniel Tarrant and Story, Hunter and Brody Bond, a sister, Elsie Dawson, of Manchester and one nephew and one niece.         Mrs. Joyal was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Harley Joyal, in 1979, a daughter, Virginia Esther Tarrant, her parents, William and Lillian Davis, sisters, Florence Gosselin, Ruth Davis and Barbara Davis, brothers, William Davis and Alden Davis, a son-in-law, Maurice DePine, and a nephew and a niece.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 23, 2007 from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N. H.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 11:00AM at the Laconia Congregational Church, 18 Veterans Square, Laconia, N. H.  Rev. Dr. Warren Bouton, Pastor of the Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the family lot in Union Cemetery, Laconia, N. H.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Congregational Church of Laconia, 18 Veterans Square, Laconia, N. H., 03246, The Taylor Home Community Sunshine Fund, 435 Union Avenue, Laconia, N. H. 03246 or Community Health & Hospice, Inc, 780 North Main Street, Laconia, N. H. 03246.
